Hello Folks,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog. I'm going to try to keep things narrowed down on what you'll see here while you browse. Our RV Travels, History, & some Vegan Stories.
WeRVegans (We are Vegans) is a name I came up w/as a result of being a traveler in an RV & Vegan..Simple right?.
I've seen lot's of simple Blogs that appealed to me to offer basic information about others & since blogger is essentially free hosting it's a great opportunity for me to share a bit of our world w/others.
Off I go...
Over the years 15-25 Year old age. I had experienced some out of state travel. Mostly my own travel buying vehicles out of state etc. One story I tell is, in 2009 ,when I paid Greyhound $50 for a 1000 Mile ride out to Virginia. It took 3 1/2 days of layovers & switching a few busses & little rest.. but I made it out there. Another experience, Back in 2002 I believe, was when I went out to New Mexico & I was the "Minority". It really opened up my eyes to our diverse USA. Through these, very limited time, trips I really enjoyed seeing the beautiful places I had encountered. I believe some of this experiences shaped my desire to travel later on.
2010 I was 25 yrs old & single so what better to do than learn how to ride a motorcycle. Everywhere says to start w/a 250cc Motorcycle (wise choice) but I wanted something big enough that would make me happy..250 wasn't going to cut it. So, CL searching I found a 2004 Vulcan 750 13K Miles on it. Great, a friend at the time was an avid motorcycle rider but he let his license lapse so we headed over for testing. Let's just say before I even got started the bike dumped over in front of the Instructor..I laughed it off in embarrassment. Yes, I failed that day. I did some more practice riding & got a bit better. So I went over to another town & passed the rider test. I even chatted w/that instructor for 30 minutes afterwords.
This motorcycle experience carried into the next year when I married my wife w/a 5 yr old son. Her folks sent the wife & I down to Orange Beach, Alabama for our honeymoon. We earned our "Iron Butts" that trip. This 750cc was really just a one person bike & had carburetor trouble on the way back. When we got back it went up for sale. I swore to never buy a carb bike again. This led me to the 1999+ Vulcan Nomad 1500cc FUEL INJECTED! I went through 2 of these Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1500cc bikes & they were much more pleasant to ride both of us onboard. Our 2004 Pictured Below
What to travel in? That's kind of when the RV idea came about. Now the age old question... What to travel in? Browsing online posts that other web folks have put together a truck camper & truck was my favorite option. I already loved Trucks! BUT What I didn't know was Weights to properly match a slide-in truck camper & truck combo. What next? after browsing all the different types of rv's out there the Class C rv was ALREADY SET-UP for me & resembled the TC/Truck Combo. No Weight Unknowns! Oh, a few folks mentioned to keep the rv down to 24 feet if you want to increase your odds of getting into tight spots. I also wanted a built in generator. Off I went to buy a Class C RV!
Pontatoula, LA had one that I wanted w/ 60K Miles on it. A trip down there & $7500 exchanged & it was ours. Yeah, It had the 460 Gas got 10 mpg avg on the trip back doing 60 mph. We picked this up in 2011.
My Traveling dreams are starting to come alive! Until, the next year when I took a hit financially. I had to sell it. We did get what we paid for it back. Not to stop there though.. In 2013 I realized Vans & Travel Trailers were some of the cheapest vehicles. I found a good shape 1998 E-150 w/5.4L & shortly after a 18ft Coachman Travel Trailer.
One aspect of traveling was that I really wanted to visit off the way area's. I found myself jammed down a narrow road w/no exit to turn around. This is not a Simple Set-up. After listening to my brothers bad directions one situation ended up tearing off one of the corners of the RV. The RV had to be sold!
What to do next? How about convert the Van to a basic Camper Van? I really like "Class B" Camper vans but I could never duplicated one of those w/the resources I had at the time.
How about a Pop-up Shower & Porta-Potti... ha ha!Let's throw in an A/C to keep our cool!
After experimenting thus far I've happened to learn a thing or two about which RV fit me better & so the next step was to go all in to what I wanted in the beginning. In February 2014 I found an older 1995 Ford F-250 XLT 7.3L Diesel w/225K on it for $3600 & a several months later bought a 1996 Shadow Cruiser 960? Truck Camper for $1100.
By 2015 I had an itch to not only ride motorcycles but travel a bit farther out. The idea of us riding cycles was fun but what I really wanted was to travel & visit interesting places for longer periods "Enjoy the Ride" sort of speak. I told the wife that now my focus was on RV traveling & so my last bike was sold. She didn't mind the change at all. In part b/c she knows how passionate I am about traveling.. Thanks Honey!
We had this set-up for 6 years. I used the truck as my Daily & put 52,000 Miles on this truck. Yes, I had to put a good chunk of funds into it to keep it going. December 2019 We used the 1995 F-250 for our drive to an RV Dealer in Longville, MN to Trade-in the Shadow Cruiser & to pick up our current Lance Truck Camper (pic below) because we knew In 2020 we would have an opportunity to get into another truck so I Sold the F-250 for $3900. I was happy to take the $800 Trade-in on the Shadow Cruiser camper...It served us well.

We put the down payment on a 2007 Ford F-350 6.0L so we knew the 1994 Lance 990 we picked up from MN would work well. In my mind a Dually was mandatory for this type of payload.
